The parents of this teenager reached out with a question about where it would be best for him to attend high school.
Their son is intelligent and talented, with a strong aptitude for math and a sharp mind. However, he is very lazy, doing everything possible to avoid school and achieving below-average grades. Given his attitude toward studying, they don’t see the point in sending him to an expensive, high-quality school. They wanted to know if the situation could be improved with the help of astrology.
In this boy’s natal chart, we see an indication of the risk of premature death. He moved, and this risk disappeared; in his current place of residence, he is not in danger. However, we also see that his chart is very tense, and when selecting a location for school, we must ensure this risk does not reappear.
The parents are considering relocating the family to Spain and asked for an analysis of potential educational opportunities in Northern Spain or Barcelona.
Using the astrocartography tool for selecting a place of residence, we calculated his local horoscopes for the entire European region. Spain is a large country, so local horoscopes vary across its regions.
Northern Spain – in cities like San Sebastian or Bilbao – shows a risk of premature death. Since his birth time is known with reasonable accuracy, we can use predictive tools to see if any dangerous aspects are currently present. If a local chart contains a formula for a shortened lifespan, it doesn’t mean that living or staying there is entirely out of the question. Dangerous periods, when an adverse event might occur, can be effectively identified using predictive tools, provided that the horoscope has been rectified. When there are no dangerous progressions, it is safe to be in that location without concern.
This boy’s chart is highly tense, which results in the danger formula being formed by numerous aspects. In the progressive methods, we see the presence of hazardous aspects. With another chart, we might find an absence of such risks, but that’s not the case here. Therefore, we would recommend against relocating him to Northern Spain.
In Barcelona, however, there is no such danger, so we won’t dismiss this option for relocation right away.

Now, let’s address the main question the parents raised.
Why does their child struggle with school? Despite being very intelligent, he makes no effort. He finds school boring and tends to skip classes. The parents wish to provide him with a quality education to prepare for a top university, but with this kind of attitude, they don’t see the value in enrolling him in an expensive private high school.
Looking at his chart for his current place of residence, we observe that the 3rd house, which, among other things, governs intellectual interests, has only 10 connections. Each house governs different areas of life. The average number of connections a house has (with other houses) is 20, forming the web of destiny for each individual. If a house has 20 connections, it means that area of life will manifest similarly to the average experience of those around them—typical energy levels, financial stability, job availability, family presence, etc.
If this number is significantly higher or lower, that area of life will be notably stronger or weaker. For instance, someone might be much wealthier than others if their 2nd house is strong, or they may struggle for years to find work if the relevant house has very few connections.
In this case, the house ruling intellectual work has half the number of connections compared to the average, which explains why the child finds mental exertion boring and tends to be lazy.
However, in his natal chart, the 3rd house has 23 connections, slightly above the average.
Intellectual abilities are also determined by the qualities of Mercury, and we see that Mercury is well-aspected. These mental capabilities remain consistent for the boy regardless of his place of residence, as they are defined by the planets and their aspects. Relocating changes the house system, which is precisely what can be optimized by moving to a different location.
Our goal here is to find a place for his studies that is both safe and strengthens his 3rd house as much as possible.
Specific innate and developed talents, along with professional inclinations, are determined by the aspects of the planets and the connections between houses, which we explore in detail in the Astrology of Professions course.
After ruling out Northern Spain, the parents asked for an analysis of the Marbella area, known for its many prestigious schools and favorable climate.
The local chart for Marbella looks promising: the formula for premature death is absent, and the danger score is only 2 points. The illness formula stands at 9 points, nearly double the average, but this may not be overly concerning, as nothing fundamentally dangerous is predicted for him, and he is still young. Studying in this location for a few years could be quite feasible.
However, let’s take an even deeper look.
We see that Mercury is located in the 12th house, right on the cusp of the 1st house. Let’s move him slightly west so that Mercury shifts fully into the 1st house. What does this change bring?
The 1st house represents our personality. By placing Mercury in the 1st house, this young man’s nature will naturally lean towards intellectual pursuits, gathering information, and building connections—all highly desirable traits for attending good schools.
Now, let’s examine his local chart for an area with a reputable school.
We observe that the 3rd house is nearly twice as strong as the average. The 1st house, now containing both the Sun and Mercury, is also twice as active as the average. The Sun creates a formula for happiness, ensuring he will be energetic and confident, while Mercury channels personal initiative toward learning and forming a social circle of friends and acquaintances.
This specific area was recommended for the young man’s relocation.
